Margaret has just completed an interim management position with PSS children and families services. Margaret has been acting as Head of service since March 2010 on a part time basis.

During this time Margaret has overseen PSS Siblings and family service and PSS Social Work Pilot (SWP) service. PSS was awarded the Social Work Pilot contract in July 2009 and Managed the Social Work Practice Pilot in partnership with Liverpool City Council (LCC), providing Social Services Support to 120 of Liverpool’s looked after Children. The current contract expired on 31st March 2012.

PSS SWP developed into an independent, practice -led provision, creating a sense of belonging and ownership within the practice and team.
Margaret Nominated the SWP for the Community Care Social work team of the year award and the SWP won a silver award in the prestigious Social Work Team of the Year awards.

The pilot put social workers at the heart of all the decision making about the 120 children and young people in their care.

Margaret believes that this award was really well deserved – this was an entirely new team working on a pilot project and they achieved so much.

One of the key things the team tried to do was create continuity of care for all the young people they were responsible for. This was difficult so the team ensured everyone, including project workers and admin staff, had knowledge of all cases and were involved in practice issues. This meant that the young people, their carers and families felt comfortable to drop in for advice even when their allocated social worker wasn’t available.

Margaret feels very privileged to have been part of this team and PSS’ journey and partnership with Liverpool Coty Council.

Providing a National company with interim Management as Head of service for their Children and Families services for a two year period (march 2010-March 2012) which led to one of the first Social Work Pilots in the country receiving a prestigious silver award at the House of commons in December 2011 for social work team of the year.

3. Providing a nationally based company who supports young people leaving care through semi-independent living services, with social work support and advice. Also providing the same company with staff training and the review of current policy and procedures and the provision of new policy and procedures.
